I am a music philosopher living in the Los Angeles area. My musical activities, some of which would traditionally be deemed composition, are based on the premise that one does not achieve new material by answering old questions in a new way, but rather by asking a new question.
At present, my main interest is the composition of subject music, a term I employ in spite of some unnecessary associative baggage in order to designate that which does not relate to a physical form or reference objects. The implications of this philosophy are threefold in that I create works that do not need to be experienced in a particular place, may not need a physical realization by performers, and do not attempt to produce a physical or visceral/gutteral response in the listener.
My areas of activity include the composition of computer music via synthesis alone (i.e., created solely via computer and containing no recorded sound), performance based works that describe the perceptual results desired rather than the actions to be performed on an object or instrument, and imaginary pieces that need no physical realization at all. For this last category of works, I can claim no innovation; there have been many individuals in the past who have written "imaginary" works and/or incorporated such aspects into traditional pieces. I have, however, attempted to ensure that my own works, unlike most notated music of the past, describe the acoustic properties of sound rather than any physical source.
After growing up in Ohio and Tennessee, I attended the Berklee College of Music and moved to Los Angeles to attend CalArts, beginning a career in the finance industry afterward which has occupied my time for the last three years. Aside from my musical activities, I enjoy following the stock market and discovering new parts of L.A.
